Last year, Dolly Parton spent her Thanksgiving performing some of her biggest hits throughout the halftime program at the Dallas Cowboys video game. This year, it looks like things might be a little bit more subtle: “We’re gon na be cookin’ all the stuff and enjoying the Dallas Cowboys on Television!” Dolly recently told REAL SIMPLE throughout an unique, special interview.
That’s right, a special interview! We spent some time with Dolly and her youngest sibling, Rachel Parton George, while they were promoting their brand-new cookbook, Good Lookin’ Cookin’, that includes special looks into their revered household and more than 80 recipes. (They even gave us their easy-yet-delicious Sweet Potato Casserole dish!) What ‘d we talk about? Their holiday menu (sage dressing for sure!) and hosting hacks (start at least a day or more in advance! write great deals of notes to yourself!), the perfect time to serve Thanksgiving supper (4 p.m.), the appeal of a cast iron skillet (” You can fry, you can prepare …” Dolly says), therefore much more.
What Dolly and Rachel Are Thankful for This Year
We started by asking what they’re most glad for this year: “We’re so glad for our family, and we’re happy for our new cookbook, which we can lastly share with everybody else’s household,” Dolly stated. And we are feeling grateful that we get to include their family’s favorite meals to our households’ vacation meals this year.
Some Controversial Questions
Later on in the convo, just for enjoyable, we asked them some low-stakes debates, like what’s the proper way to eat mac and cheese: with a fork or a spoon? “I do not require either ’cause I got these,” Dolly stated while pinching her long bedazzled nails together like a crab.
We forecasted how they ‘d answer (thinking about the cookbook and all), however we asked if it’s OK to share family dishes. “We love to share,” stated Rachel. “If we have a dish and people state it’s good, we wish to share that with everybody.” Dolly piled on, including that everybody in the family attempts to make claim to particular dishes, with someone saying they make the very best chicken and dumplings and another person saying they make the best roast. When the family gets together, everyone brings their iconic meal for the sharing.
What’s the best component? Rachel stated it’s butter: “I simply can’t get enough.” Dolly nominated salt: “I’ve got ta have salt. Even if it ain’t good for ya, I’ve still got ta have it.” After agreeing with each other, the sisters arrived at salted butter as the apparent winner.
Remarkably, we learned that Dolly is the type to leave unclean meals in the sink– overnight! And they both voted for cranberry sauce from a can over the fresh stuff: “It’s simply what we grew up with,” Rachel stated, before admitting that she’ll in some cases melt it and add fresh cranberries to it.
